McIntyre Tate LLP Partner Stephen Prignano was recently quoted in a RI
Lawyers Weekly article regarding the liability implications of drone operations
in civilian airspace. The article highlighted the increased use of drones
by individuals and businesses in a variety of contexts. Stephen commented
that increased drone use will likely lead to increased risk of liability
among operators, owners and businesses as a result of negligent operations.
The article also discussed liability of drone operators and owners for
possible privacy violations and data breaches. Commenting on possible
insurance coverage for such liability, Stephen pointed out that there
is not a robust commercial insurance market for drone operations, and
several exclusions in existing homeowner's and commercial risk policies
will likely preclude coverage in many situations.
