Rob was born in Newport, Rhode Island but grew up in Pebble Beach, California, and McLean, Virginia, before returning to practice law in Rhode Island in 1984. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, with distinction, from the University of Virginia and his Juris Doctor Degree from the Washington and Lee University School of Law where he served as a writer and Note and Comment Editor of its Law Review and was selected as one of four Moot Court Finalists.
Professional Practice
Rob began his legal career as an associate at Adler Pollock & Sheehan and subsequently was an associate and then partner in the law firm of Temkin & Miller before joining the predecessor of McIntyre Tate LLP in 1992.
Rob has represented individuals and businesses in complex civil litigation in the Rhode Island Superior and Family Courts as well as other state and federal courts and on appeal before the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
Rob is a Fellow of the Rhode Island Bar Association, a member of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Bar Associations, both State and Federal, the American Association for Justice, the Rhode Island Bar Association's Family Court Bench Bar Committee and the Inn of the Rhode Island Family Court.
He has spoken in seminars for diverse audiences ranging from the Rhode Island Bar Association to the National Association of Yacht Charter Brokers. He is published in Trial Magazine, quoted in US Lawyer's Weekly, has co-authored the section on prenuptial agreements in “A Practical Guide to Divorce in Rhode Island,” the principal treatise on family law in Rhode Island and continues to serve as the reporter for Rhode Island in the ABA's Family Law Quarterly.
Rob has argued and won cases with significant precedential import in the Rhode Island Supreme Court as well as cases in the Rhode Island Family and Superior Court, the Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts of Rhode Island, and the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Rob is a concerned steward of the environment who has served as a Board Member and Secretary of the Audobon Society of Rhode Island.
